About
Dr. Kauh MD, MS

Dr. Kauh was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and received her medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine. At the University of Toledo, her dedication to achieving academic excellence was rewarded with multiple academic scholarships, and she was one of the few medical students inducted as junior into the prestigious AOA medical honor society.

She then defected to the dark (blue) side when she matched for her ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Kellogg Eye Center at University of Michigan, one of the top 10 ophthalmology training programs in the country. Dr. Kauh was initially attracted to the field of Ophthalmology because of a personal tragedy that unfortunately affected her family but also serendipitously introduced her to this tiny but intricate subset of medicine.

During her ophthalmology residency, she became interested in oculoplastic surgery as a way to meld her artistic and scientific sides. As the daughter of a professional photographer, Dr. Kauh always had an artistic eye and appreciation for art and beauty; she had always enjoyed drawing and performing needlepoint as artistic outlets. Fortunately, her skill at needlepoint helped her win the annual resident suturing contest multiple times during her three years at University of Michigan. However, the award she is most proud of getting during residency is the Make A Difference Award, which is awarded when a resident is given multiple positive patient reviews.

Dr. Kauh is married and met her husband in the Anatomy Lab. While formaldehyde is not commonly considered an aphrodisiac, it worked for them! They both share a passion for fine microsurgery, delicate bones in the body, and achieving absolute mastery over a small area of the body (Dr. Kauh’s husband is a hand surgeon). They have a beautiful daughter and a petite bernedoodle, and they enjoy taking RV trips as a family. Dr. Kauh also enjoys reading and has combined her artistic talent and medical knowledge into a new hobby: medical illustrations!

Training & Skills

Her academic prowess, compassionate approach to patient care, and natural surgical skills made her a triple threat and helped her secure a highly competitive ASOPRS oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship. She elected to keep it within the Big Ten family and went to train at one of the longest standing and highly regarded oculoplastics fellowship programs, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under Dr. Mark Lucarelli, a former ASOPRS president.

Following her training, Dr. Kauh returned home to Columbus where she has served as Assistant Professor of Oculoplastics at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for over 4 years. During her time there, she served on multiple committees, published numerous peer reviewed scientific articles and book chapters, presented at multiple national meetings, and was deeply engaged in teaching trainees.

Ultimately, Dr. Kauh decided to leave academic medicine and open Columbus Eyelid Plastic Surgery so that she could provide better direct and personalized care to each and every one of her patients.

Because Dr. Kauh has such a passion for teaching, she continues to staff the OSU ophthalmology residents at the Columbus VA and also continues to give lectures and participate in web labs with the OSU ophthalmology department.
